Small sections, high land value and salt air. The Mount is where a plunge or a lap pool usually beats a big family shell, and where access planning matters most.
Mount Maunganui sections are compact and the land is expensive, so the calculation is different here. The question is rarely "how big a pool can we fit". It is "what is the best use of the space we have left after the house". That usually points at a plunge pool or a lap pool rather than a family-sized shell.
A well-placed plunge pool in a Mount courtyard can transform the space. An oversized pool in the same yard swallows it.
Between the closely spaced houses of the Mount and Ōmanu, the lift is the part that needs solving first. The shell arrives whole and comes in over the roofline, so what matters is where the crane can legally and safely stand, what the reach needs to be, and what sits overhead between the truck and the hole.
Some sections need a larger crane and a street closure arranged with the council. That is normal, it is planned, and it is far better known about at the quote stage than discovered later. We work it out before anything is committed.
Mount Maunganui falls under Tauranga City Council for pool consent and barrier inspections. Where a lift needs the road, that is arranged through the council as well, and it is part of what we manage.
The shell itself does not care about salt air, and the gelcoat is unaffected. What does care is everything metal around it: gate hardware, balustrade fixings, equipment housings, light fittings. Coastal exposure is hard on cheap hardware, and pool gates in particular have to keep working reliably for the barrier to remain compliant.
We specify hardware and finishes with that in mind. On a coastal section it is a false economy not to.
The Fiji Plunge and The Olympus are the obvious answers for a courtyard or a small back yard, giving genuine swimming water in a footprint that leaves you somewhere to sit. The Esprit suits a long narrow strip down the side of a house. The Harmony works where there is a bit more room but not enough for a family shell.
Where a section does open up, The Reflection with an auto cover is a strong option here: the cover holds heat overnight, keeps the sand and leaves out, and hides away when you are using the pool.
